External Drive Quits
Anyone else have a problem with their ext. drive ejecting itself in the middle of outputting a long movie?
I'm running a Mac Pro 8 core machine with FCS2, my movie is 90 min. Should I break up the sequence in to like 3 smaller ones and combined them in DVDSP? It takes forever in compressor to make the .m2v files for DVDSP. I'm using the 6mbs 90 minute DVD setting in compressor. Everything is on an external drive (Seagate 750Gig) except the apps. Any suggestions on work flow to this point? Thanks |
Take that machine and the drive to the Genius Bar at an Apple store. There's something very wrong with hardware communication for a drive to be "ejected", there's nothing in DVDSP that would cause that to occur. My guess is that there's something going on with the mainboard and only a tech can drill-down and find the problem.

well I just got home to check it again after outputting half the movie in compressor. This time the drive didn't disconnect but it only output the sound file ".ac3" and not the video".m2v".

I just posted out a 13 minute clip from the same FC timeline in compressor with the same settings and it worked fine. It seems that whenever I post more than a half hr I have problems.
Any suggestions? |
The same advice applies, Scott. Either there's an issue with the mainboard (heat possibly) or you've got some corruption in software. Either way this behavior is so odd (never heard of it before) a trip to the Genius Bar is warranted.

got it....
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot |
