help with FCP audio on the time line at DVinfo.net

Hi,

I've been using FCP since before x, but not a lot lately.

As primarily an audio person, I've had many, "why did they do it THAT way?" moments.

I fond myself stuck again and would appreciate some help.

I recorded an acoustic guitar piece with two mics; one to each track on my camera. I'm trying to show how each works separately and then how they work together. For that last segment I need to adjust individual track volumes because the mics are of slightly different sensitivity.

I know the dual mono and stereo modes,and am trying to apply them to the respective three clips.
When I do tha, the first two clips go grey and there is no audio.

I don't believe it's impossible, I just can't seem to get it to work so that I hear track one from mic one, track 2 from mic 2 and then a stereo spread of both mics.

Hi Ty, nice to see you here again and if you can’t solve this I don’t think I can. But and there’s always a but with my stuff.

I understand you’re preparing to copy or master 3 video versions, mic 1, mic 2 then the stereo version.

Is it possible the problem is in your transfer cables, something like ‘out of phase’ ? Maybe swap them for another set and see what occurs. Try video recording a few more short tests with them.

Stay cool mate, as you well know, this sort of thing can drive you nuts.

Long time no squeek.

Nah, digital camera SD cards. Stereo already on teh file. Looking to get a solution for making weach of three video clips have different audio. Left only,, right only and stereo.

There are at least two solution I can think of. One is to break apart the audio into two separate file, one left and one right. Import each separate file as well as the original stereo mix into FCP then load the three files into the timeline.

Another option is to duplicate the stereo mix and paste it back into the timeline, then disable the left channel. You should be able to disable it in the area where you select dual mono. Then repeat this process and disable the right channel.

With the three files stacked together you can use the range tool to select a section of a track to turn off using the disable keyboard command “v”. Press v again to enable it. This will allow you to turn on or off sections of each track so that you can hear the differences.
