Triathlete-5DMII video
A compilation of footage from a recent outing shooting professional triathletes Matt and Chris Lieto. All ground/underwater footage is from the 5DM2. The aerial footage in this vid was from a small Sony CX12.

Hey Derek, the video looked good to me, and the editing really flowed.
Most people wouldnt notice it, but is it possible to match some of the crushed blacks from the 5d to match your sony? Because certain footage, i could clearly tell it was from the 5d. |

Really nice photography Derek. What lenses did you shoot with on the 5DII?
|
Sigh...
I know now that I must own a helicopter for ariel shooting. Looks great (ignoring the Youtube compression) |
Jack,
I'm sure if I had better post production skills I could get better color matching with the two cameras, but it's something I struggled with. I'm flying the 5D now, so in the future it will be a non-issue. Peer, Yes, Tam and also Berkeley. Jim, Lenses were 50mm 1.2, 70-200mm 2.8, 15mm, 24-105mm |
Simply awesome. Definitely professional grade work. And I am not just talking the aerials, though they were amazing in themselves....everything was top notch. Terrific production values.

Too bad there wasn't more swimming in the video. We only see one full breath.
This is par for the course. An Ironman includes a grueling 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run, yet the swim is only 2.4 miles, which is about the length of a good workout. In 2008, Craig Alexander of Australia won the World Championship with the bike taking 4:39:19, and the run 2:45.01. The swim was less than an hour at 51:43. It's clearly a rider's sport. A 60 mile ride and a 6 mile swim would be a better balance. Anyway, it's a great looking video, but give us more swimming next time. :) |

Really nice, I didn't notice the aerials shots were using another camera, because I couldn't understand how they were done!!! ;-DDD
Beautiful work! |
Great video. Are you using ND to get DOF and/or camera using a high iso?

FWIW, my son filmed my Masters Swimming coach setting the world record in the 50 fly last year for the 70-74 year old age class. Get this: he swims 25 meters without a breath, takes one breath on the turn, and doesn't breathe again until the end of the race. That's the equivalent of running a football field while holding your breath, taking a quick breath in the end zone, and turning around and doing it again - a 31.55 second race. Colonel Crush - The World's Fastest Flyer (Shot on a consumer-grade 1/4.7" camcorder. Too bad we didn't have the 5D Mk II back then...) Just a detour, not a hijack... Back to the triathlon video - a great use of the 5D2. |
