so I was just wondering if there was anyway that I could take a project im working on in final cut pro like the timeline and save it onto a dvd disc and then when i put the dvd disc back in be able to change stuff in the timeline in final cut so if anyone knows how to do that on a mac or programs that will allow me to do that on mac please let me know.

Its simple use a dvd burning software such as toast to copy the project file and all the support files it points to (captured video and imported files such as music).

Just realize that you will only get a total of about 20 minutes video on a DVD. That really isn't much if you're talking about a full project and all its clips. And don't forget all the render files. Personally I don't think this is a very practical way to store DV. Maybe the Blu-ray disks (or whatever that morphs into) will be a little more feasible.

Also, this would only be a solution for archiving since the DVD drive isn't likely to transfer data fast enough for actual playback. You'd have to copy the DVD back to your hard drive for that I suspect.

You don't need to back up the rendered files, these can always be rerendered. If you need more space split it up on to 2 dvds that 9.4 gigs of data. Even though you think you'll go back and reedit a project you'll find you never do.
