DVD and CD jewel case recommendations

1. What is the best software for creating jewel case inserts and covers? I have Roxio Platinum and I don’t like it. Also, what labels do you like the best?

2. Can some one recommend a good vendor for bulk supplies and duplication? I do small runs here myself but sometimes need to send large runs out.

Hi,

I just use Adobe Photoshop for DVD/CD jewelcase and
slimcase inserts. Although I have little info to offer to
people that operate at your volume, I can say this:

1) I use Adobe Photoshop to design the inserts.
(Canon recommends that you print directly with their
image printing software by producing a JPG, BMP or TIFF
with Photoshop. This is not necessary.)

2) Add dotted guidelines for cutting and folding

3) Print on Canon i950 six color printer using Canon
Photo Glossy Plus Paper. There is a color difference
between this paper and the next step up, but both
produce great-looking, glossy inserts.

4) Cut inserts using an ordinary paper cutter.


Initially, I tried the Memorex pre-cut label kits .
I could never get the printer output to line up with the
precuts. For some reason, the printing software would
scale the image slightly larger than cut outs. So, I
concluded that there is a software problem rather than
a paper alignment problem. Use the recommended
brand of printer paper. I bought the glossy paper on
sale, and was stuck with lots of horizontal line gaps
in my output image.

Apparently, DVDs become read less reliably with labels.
Someone reported great success with clear, sticky,
expensive labels. However, I was unable to contact
this individual after his post to one of the DVD Usenet
groups.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sick of trying to get all of the label software to line up with the die cuts. I will try it in Photoshop and make my own. I have a Canon S9000 and I love it.

If your getting horizontal lines from your printer it is usualy not the paper. Run the print head cleaning utility and they go away.

Thanks. The horizontal lines disappeared completely when I used the Canon Photo Glossy Plus or Pro paper. I blew a few nights trying to align the heads for the other paper, but it
turned out to be the paper itself. As soon as I use the right paper, boom. No lines. The Canon store representative
couldn't offer a specific explanation for the phenomenon, but assured me that the inks formulated for particular paper.
I'm not sure whether this is a move to sell paper with the ink,
but I don't intend to experiment for only a slight savings on
paper.
