Sicko
I do speak plain english to my 7 month old granddaughter. When I run out of words or she looks bored I sing a little melody to her. "Who is the best girl in the world?" to the tune of "I have a bonnet trimmed with blue" is a current favourite, as it has been for many generations.
I've just heard on radio a trailer for "Sicko" ... it's a great pleasure to listen to the output of effective scriptwriting ... there's continuing hope for society as long as people can make words work for them. Pictures/images have a terrific role to play ... in second place. Music, my favourite pasttime, only comes third but when words fail, music can be amazingly helpful ... words (in the form of lyrics)and music (as melody & harmony for the lyrics) can go together quite well; Cole Porter proved that. The simultaneous combination of serious script, flashing images and unrelated backing track can easily become an insult to all, IMO. But, of course, if the script doesn't matter, the script doesn't matter. The scriptwriter of Sicko thinks that script does matter and the director made sure (on the trailer at least) that it continued to matter. Matter to whom? Matter to the listener, me. |
All for it
As a Director and so-so writer i think a Screenplay/scriptwriting forum would be great for answering those questions for semi-ok writers like myself....
