Chris Hurd March 13th, 2009 06:12 PM

Our glitch from this morning has been fixed and we're taking steps to prevent it from happening again. Apologies for the hang-time... we're back to normal now, hopefully.

Tripp Woelfel March 15th, 2009 08:09 AM

I'm still experiencing the problem with loading. I've been on several computers and it happens on each of them. I'm using Firefox.

Pete Bauer March 15th, 2009 09:24 AM

Working fine for me this AM on IE7...no repeat of Friday the 13th.

Ervin Farkas March 15th, 2009 10:41 AM

Fair enough here as well, also on IE7; still slower than other sites.

Jeff Harper March 15th, 2009 11:26 PM

Chris, you seemed to have fixed something, I had a rough few days with the site but all seems well now. Thank you.

Boyd Ostroff March 17th, 2009 12:04 PM

Experiencing some slowness just now - 2:01 PM EDT. Clicking on any DVinfo links stalled for over 30 seconds while loading the page. Meanwhile, all the other sites I tried are opening as usual.

Jeff Harper March 17th, 2009 11:36 PM

Yeah, it has gone back to being a little slow. Especially for posting...it is intermittent though...

Boyd Ostroff March 18th, 2009 12:11 PM

Is there something special about 2:00 PM? :-) Today I am seeing the same thing at 2:09. It was fine around 11:00 AM when I was posting something.

Chris Soucy March 24th, 2009 12:49 AM

Hey, Chris H............

and all co - workers.

I LIKE the new layout.

What an improvement!

Well done to all concerned, quite a reorganisation and briliantly thought out to boot.

This site just keeps going from strength to strength.

Slow-n-Spotty, Service Unavailable

I keep getting this message, in FireFox:

503 Service Unavailable
No server is available to handle this request.

Sometimes when bumping up to another forum, sometimes when posting, and other times it all works beautifully. When it happens while posting, I'll have a copy/paste of my post, and check the forum--usually my post has posted successfully.

Happens both at work and at home--different computers, different networks, etc. It's fairly recent, too--most noticeable after the recent housekeeping.

Something ain't right, I tell ya...

Thanks,
Matt

I've had a few posts disappear on me??? I've replied to someone's thread only to find out my post is missing the next day. I wonder if my computer is the problem, are my posts being deleted by a mod, or the last option which is highly unlikely.... pilot error???? Its happened a few times now. One was a new thread that I started... What the heck.
Hopefully this post doesn't disappear.

Pete Bauer April 21st, 2009 01:14 PM

Tom, I'll send you an email.

Graham Hickling April 23rd, 2009 09:02 PM

Can't access the list of my previous posts

It used to be that one could access a link to a list of all one's previous forum posts via the "View my profile the way other see it" link.

But now when I try that, the page with the link I'm wanting flashes up for a only a fraction of a second and then disappears again!

Anyone else having this problem?

Pete Bauer April 24th, 2009 12:55 PM

Jeff Kramer, the server guru, and Chris are aware and working on it. For now I continue to get random timeouts with a message:

"503 Service Unavailable
No server is available to handle this request."

Anyone else, or just me?

Ervin Farkas April 24th, 2009 12:58 PM

I've seen it a few times.

Mike Beckett April 24th, 2009 01:25 PM

Just to add my voice:

The forum's been pretty tempermental today. Lots of 503 errors, and then for a lot of the day the links didn't work - I could open sub-forums OK (such as Open DV or the UWOL forum), but opening a post would link off to dev.dvinfo.net where I was logged out and a couple of days posts were missing.

I've had the problems in Chrome and IE7, both at home on DSL and on my office leased line.

It does seem to be back in business now, though!

Jack Smith April 30th, 2009 09:09 PM

no log in

I'm not getting a log in box at the top of the page. The place where it used to be is now covered by an Adobe Banner and the home, news, articles, forum, videos, shop bar.

I have a work around by doing a search and it fails saying I'm not logged in.But gives me a place to login there.

Ervin Farkas May 1st, 2009 06:44 AM

Amnesia

The server seems to have amnesia - the "keep me logged in" feature works some days... other days I need to log in again.

Chris Hurd May 1st, 2009 06:47 AM

Jack, what display settings is your browser using? We tried to optimize it for 1024 x 768.

A mobile version will be in the works soon.

Rick Bolton May 1st, 2009 03:47 PM

Chris - I'm getting quite a few 503 Server Unavailable notices late yesterday and throughout today.

Christopher Glavan May 1st, 2009 07:05 PM

I'm unable to stay logged in. I enter my name and pass, it thanks me for logging in, then takes me back to the main page... but not logged in.

=(

Ervin Farkas May 5th, 2009 12:41 PM

More weird behavior: on the main page http://dvinfo.net/conf/ I'm not logged in (displays the login box in upper right corner), but when I go to a forum, I'm logged in.

Also, panels won't "stick" at next login (preference not memorized by server).

Not to mention the whole site barely crawling, veeery slow all day today.

Jack Smith May 5th, 2009 11:16 PM

Thanks for responding Chris. I've been away.
Display is 800 x 600 I know the site has been 1024 for quite a while and has always worked fine until recently. I can send a screen shot.
Actually I sent you an email with the screen shot April 20 which is when the problem began.
I can another if you like.Let me know.

Jack Smith May 24th, 2009 09:24 PM

Any thoughts on why the loggin doesn't show?

I, too have been having this difficulty for the past month or so. I have to log in multiple times, and it has taken as many as seven times(!) to get the login to "take".

The "remember me": function no longer seems to work at all.

Very strange...

Ervin Farkas June 1st, 2009 05:16 AM

Keep me logged in

Just a shot in the dark: might be that the login issues are browser related? Or maybe related to certain versions of the browser?

It seems to work now all the time on my work PC which runs IE7, but will not remember me on my home PC running IE8.

Alister Chapman June 4th, 2009 11:19 AM

Error 503

I'm getting lots of Error 503, No server Available messages. Getting to the point where the board is unusable.

Mike Beckett June 4th, 2009 12:00 PM

Lots of slowness and Gateway Timeout errors at the moment for me too.

Chris Hurd June 4th, 2009 01:57 PM

Thanks for the heads-up; we'll get this issue cleaned up right away.

Mike Beckett June 4th, 2009 02:05 PM

It's actually a lot better now Chris, so whatever you've done, it worked. Maybe you did nothing!

I'm reminded of a phone-in on Irish radio, the caller couldn't hear the presenter:

Caller: "I can't hear you."
Presenter: "Hang on". Pause. "Is that better?"
Caller: "Much better."
Presenter: "Well I didn't do anything."

Boyd Ostroff June 12th, 2009 03:21 PM

FWIW, I just got the "503 Service Unavailable - No server is available to handle this request." error twice now (5:20PM EDT Friday). The first error came after making a post (athough the post did appear), then I got the same thing when clicking on one of the forums.

Lorinda Norton July 22nd, 2009 06:49 PM

Testing...one....two...

Lorinda Norton July 22nd, 2009 07:28 PM

Well now...that was odd. But whatever the glitch, thanks for getting us back together here, Jeff!

Chris Hurd July 22nd, 2009 07:43 PM

We had quite a hiccup there from 4:45pm to 8:30pm CT but Jeff got us back in the saddle as usual (thanks Jeff!)

Bryan Daugherty July 24th, 2009 04:17 PM

Glad you guys got it fixed, I have actually been having a hard time getting on for a few days but all is good since the last fix. Thanks to you and your team for being on the ball!

Andrew Smith July 25th, 2009 07:42 AM

Hi Chris,

No matter what I set (eg "instant email notification") when I make a post, I never receive emails regarding activity on a thread that I am following.

Is it possible to have this fixed?

Andrew Smith

Boyd Ostroff August 10th, 2009 04:38 PM

Here's a new one. From the main forum index I clicked the "View Forum Leaders" link at the bottom of the page and got a blank page with
Quote:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 86 bytes) in /export/sites/dvinfo.net/docs/conf/includes/functions.php on line 3964
Running Firefox 3.05 on Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Ervin Farkas August 11th, 2009 05:17 AM

Does the server set a time limit for staying logged in? Any other condition?

I always check the "keep me logged in" box - sometimes I stay logged in for a few days, other times it kicks me out the same day, totally erratic.

Cookies from DVinfo are allowed on the PC, and I am using IE.

Thanks,

Andrew Smith August 12th, 2009 10:32 AM

The site speed seems normal right now, but after submitting a comment or navigating to another page I am sometimes getting a time-out error. A retry usually fixes it.

Using the latest Firefox on XP.

I seem to be getting emailed post notifications from the Audio and Canon XHA1 boards but not from the others..?

Also none of my posts have ever shown up in New Posts.

No cheers.
