NAB Roll Call
Howdy from chilly Orlando Florida,
Need to know right away how many of you guys are planning to be in Las Vegas for NAB in April... if there's enough interest in getting together for an hour or two one evening, I'll look into securing a venue for us to meet each other and shoot the breeze. Will be home on Friday, promise to get caught up with all the posts I haven't read yet. Thanks, |
NAB
Ill be at NAB, I run a multimedia/DV company in Las Vegas where i reside..
Ill be intersted in doing some mangling during the convention for buisness reasons.. I would like to get my foot into the door in whats going on outside of Las Vegas in the digital video industry... If any thats a possibility then great, Im always looking for ways to meet and exchange info with others in the industry.. Adam |
C'mon guys, not much time to prepare for this! Anybody else? Otherwise if it's just Adam and myself, looks like I'm buying the beer.
|
Free beer? Sounds real tempting, but it comes down to me going to Las Vegas, or bringing our son home from The Boston Conservatory for spring break. My bride already adjusted my paradigm -- you can guess who lost!
Cheers |
If work schedule permits, I'll be checking out NAB, especially if that Panasonic 24p is going to be on display...hard to turn down an opportunity to raise a frosty.
|
Charles, it would be an honor and a pleasure to meet you at NAB. I'll buy the rounds if you can put up with a few questions I'll have for you, such as what was it like to work with Tony Kaye, and what was it like to work with Mike Judge in Austin in the summertime during the "Chiapas Haze." Office Space and Am Hist X really stand out in my mind as very interesting movies! And folks, Charles has also worked on West Wing and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to name another couple items on his long and impressive resume.
Gotta love IMDB -- looking forward to meeting you, Charles! Anybody *else* for NAB? You don't have to be a star to be in my show. ;-) |
I look forward to meeting you too Chris.
Without going into too much detail...Austin was interminably hot and sticky during the filming of 'Office Space", but Mike Judge was a lot of fun to work with. "American History X" was a great film but a strange shoot; Tony Kaye's working methods are unorthodox to say the least (his post-production struggles are now Hollywood legend, but there was almost as many unheard stories from the production itself). I'd be happy to elaborate in Vegas--which I haven't been back to since "3000 Miles to Graceland", the Costner flop, which itself has plenty of stories attached to it--now look what you've done! |
Hello Chris
I'll be at NAB from Sunday to Thursday and would enjoy having a get together. I have my own DV production business here in Clearwater, FL and have done alot of recording work for pianist Chick Corea. Let me know either way.

Indeed the Promax Digital Video Cafe on Tuesday seems to be the best place so far to hook up. NAB: it's a wrap
Howdy from Texas,
I just flew back from Las Vegas, and boy, my arms are tired. I have a lot of industry-related stuff to report about camcorders and the like, but will have to save all that until the first of the week. This weekend is just for recovering and taking it easy and getting some feeling back in my feet again (they're killing me right now). The main thing I wanted to take care of right away though, is to say how great it was to meet a lot of folks from the Community boards here, and to make some new friends who haven't joined us yet but have been to (or have been on) the Watchdog before. From the Community boards, I met Ashley Guy, Michael Rosenberger, Bob Cetti, Paul Snow, Donatello Bonato and Charles Papert. Man, I know I'm forgetting a couple of people, too. Also met a couple of Watchdog contributors, Earle Greenburg and Jim Kinsey. Jim has the page "African Wildlife through an EF Lens" in the Images Gallery. And I saw a bunch of good friends from former shows which of course is always great, especially Les Zellan and the folks from ZGC, one of my sponsors. A special "howdy" to Charles Papert, who came back to the booth on Wednesday to give me a tape, except I wasn't there. At the last minute, I was dispatched to spend the day at the B&H booth in the new South Hall, about a half-mile walk away. Well Charles, I'm really sorry I had to miss you but I did get the tape from our mutual friend Adam Brooks. Thanks! I had every intention of making it to the ProMax DV Cafe on Tuesday night, which I had suggested as a meeting place. But earlier that afternoon I found out that I had been invited to dinner with the folks from Tiffen, and it would have been a bad move to miss out on that... but this is the making of another story and I don't know how it's going to end yet. ;-) The funniest Watchdog-related story I heard from NAB was when Tim Smith of Canon USA told me about the guy who wanted to see "the new camera, the one with the big white lens about this long" (holds hands far apart). Somebody had seen the page in the Images Gallery about how we attached an XL1S body to a Canon 1200mm EOS lens, but wasn't clear on the concept I guess. Anyway it was a long, grueling week, but I'm really glad I went... now I'm happy to be home. Will throw some stuff together for y'all, in the next few days. Thanks to everyone here and especially the board's wranglers for keeping things going during the meantime! |
