Hey Dylan,
Maybe a suggestion: I just stumbled on this thread today because I never read the DVINfo Net Announcements forum. If there could've been a post in the other forums or something (like the open DV one) then maybe I would've given this a shot. Anyways, I think it's a great idea you have here. I'm very curious to see the final films! |
Glenn, you don't read DV info announcements?!?! Shame!!!
Emre, Aaron finished his film in 6 hours I believe. Hate to say it, but if you can't make a 2-3 minute film in a week, you can't make it in two weeks either. However, if there is enough interest in another competition, and enough people ask for a 2 week period, I'd consider it. |
As one of the people who took on Dylan's challenge, I have to say that I think one week is just right.
There's something about the urgency of writing, shooting, editing, etc. in such a short amount of time that makes it more exciting. Another thing to consider is that the way this one was set up folks like me--complete amateurs--could feel okay about giving it a go. The guy on my team who could have shot a short movie in a professional manner moved away; now I've got to either find new shooters or try to develop skills of my own, which I believe was the main idea of this challenge. The totally non-threatening nature of it made me jump in. And having only a week gave me a bit of an excuse for lousy lighting and stuff! I said all that to say that I feel like the parameters should stay as they are. Sure, I scrambled, stressed out, and was completely exhausted by the time it was done, but boy, was it FUN!!! I learned a ton of things and maybe by the next challenge people will see an improvement. (Next time I’m thinking I’ll try to make the story so that people can actually GET it! In testing it on six people I knew, only one said "I GET IT!") Thanks again, Dylan. I had a blast and will keep trying for that laser-printed prize. : ) |
I have to agree. One week was PLENTY of time. Sure, I didn't even START until the last day, but that is honestly what made it fun. The male character in mine had a window of an hour and a half to shoot, and then I had only two hours to edit because I had a concert to go to. I think I was actually laughing the whole time we made this thing. So my question is, when is the next one???
|
Crap!! I just noticed this thread.. are there going to be more challenges in the future (yah, i need to look around the forum more :p )?
|
There COULD be another one in the future, if there is enough of you who want to do it. There was pretty good response for the first one, so I'd be happy to run a second.
|
I think it would be great if we could turn this into a monthly thing for example!
|
I don't see why not, as long as we keep getting enough interest.
|
Yeah, I am all up for monthly...
|
Can you e-mail me announcing the next competition?

Otherwise... No, you'll have to check back here. Don't worry, we'll announce it much in advance next time. |
Okay. I won;t be lazy and I'll check the posts.
|
Cool
I haven't been here regular like in a while, but an idea this cool will certainly get me to come back more often. Especially now that I have my basic kit all put together. I have absolutely no idea how to get a movie onto the internerd, but I have a cable connection, and Comcast is my ISP and they offer personal web pages, so maybe I can figure it out.
Just maybe. |
I already have my short movie idea and I am ready to go. Just waiting for the announcement.
|
Hugh: keep in mind that your movie must use the "theme" supplied by Dylan,
since this hasn't been announced yet.... |
