Windows Gamma
Hi:
I am on a MAC running FCP Suite 2 and Sorenson 5 Squeeze. I am wondering if my videos are too dark. Can some of you Windows users let me know by checking out some of my videos on www.video-vermont.com. The good ones to check would be the marathon and the dandelion festival. Both are shot in HD. If they are too dark...can you suggest settings. I had already made one stab at this but came up with wrong result Tim |
I watched the Dandelion Festival - very interesting!
On my Windows-based laptop, the video seems to suffer from a wide dynamic range with the highlights being very hot and the shadows very cold. e.g., the dandelions in the opening sequence lack their detail. Not sure if this is a consequence of compressing the video for us to view or not. Overall, I wouldn't say that the video appears too dark, though. BTW, in the later shot of the field there are some large-leafed plants growing - are they burdock? Growing up, Dandelion and Burdock was my favorite soft drink. |
dandelions
Yes, I think there are burdochs...anyway, I am going to recompress with slightly different settings. I was just on to a tech at Sorenson who was looking at the marathon on a Windows LCD. He seemed to think my settings for this movie were okay. I am boost my gamma a bit I think. Everything looks find on the mac.

Bonjour neighbour
I am working today on a Macbook and a Macbook pro. from the macbook, all the colors look very not saturated and contrasted, even the black frame around your videos window look grey. on the macbook pro the black is black but not in the video I watched(homemade raft) and all the colors are light, like a ektachrome after 20 years, so give us the nice bright colors of Kodachrome. But you made me saw that I should not trade my macbook pro for a macbook. |

I think you overshot your target this time, your video is too light on my calibrated PC monitor. Could use a little more contrast too (and image stabilization, but that's another story). Hopefully the attached image can help you, I suppose the background on this frame should be black, just like the background on your website.

Looks washed out on mine as well.
