128 GB Cards are due soon
 

Dear Friends,

I have been working with a CompactFlash card manufacturer, Axtremex.

We have had a 128 GB CompactFlash card, and a fast 64 GB card in our labs for approximately one month.

We have been thoroughly testing them, and they have passed all of our tests.

The 128 GB 600x card supports 220 Mbps, with 8 Channel Audio.

The 64 GB 600x Plus card supports 280 Mbps with 8 Channel Audio.

The new 128 GB card thus allows for very long, uninterrrupted record times.

For example, at Broadcast Quality, 4:2:2, 50 Mbps, the nanoFlash, with two of these cards can now record up to approximately 640 minutes, or 10 hours and 40 Minutes.

At 100 Mbps, the time will be approximately 5.3 hours

The new 128 GB card is great for those needing long recording times, and the 64 GB 600x Plus card is great for those needing a fast 64 GB card at moderate prices.

We expect these cards to be in-stock in less than three weeks.

Hi Dan:
I can hardly wait to grab four of these 128 GB cards for my XDR !! I wish you folks would turn on Raid 0 striping and HDD emulation for the Nano/XDR, then these cards could just live in my XDR full time with no need to unplug them.

128 GB CompactFlash Cards

The era of 128 GB CompactFlash cards is almost here.

The first batch of 128 GB CompactFlash cards is on its way to nanoFlash.net.

FedEx reports that the package will arrive at nanoFlash.net by noon on Thursday, December 24, 2010 (by Noon EST).

Rick Kelly has informed me that orders placed now will be shipped tomorrow (unless there is a delay in receiving the package), or if he runs out of stock.

The price for the 128 GB CompactFlash card, which supports up to 220 Mbps in the nanoFlash is $489.95 each. The cards carry a lifetime warranty by the manufacturer.

I feel that this is great news for our nanoFlash community.

If one wants to record at 50 Mbps, with two of these cards, one can record, uninterrupted for over 10 hours, and over 5 hours at 100 Mbps, or over 2 1/2 hours at 220 Mbps.

A production sample of these cards has been under test, 24/7, in our lab since early November. We have had no issues with the card.

How much though??

The price is $489.95 for a 128 GB card.

Considering a card of this size is just being released to the marketplace, the price per gigabyte is remarkable.

It will change the way we use the unit in a lot of instances.

I also feel that the price is very reasonable, especially for such high technology.

A quality 64 GB card, one built with premium memory chips typically cost more that 1/2 the cost of the new 128 GB card.

Stated differently, two high-quality 64 GB cards, typically in the 400x range, cost more that one Axtremex 128 GB 600x card.

I just think it will be great to record a very long event, uninterrupted, on one or two cards.

Or record in 220 Mbps mode for over two and one-half hours (with two cards).

Great, but really risky to lose 500US$ if a card drops from your hand.
I will keep on the 64GB's.

If you drop it and loose it, then it is a problem.

If you drop it, most likely it will not be damaged.

Of course, it is not good if you drop it in sand or dirt and clog up the female electrical sockets on the card.

A high quality Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB is still ~ $500 US. The Sandisk Extreme 32GBs have dropped to ~ $150 US, less half their price from a year ago when I bought them.

And my two Transcend 64GB CompactFlash PRO UDMA $179.95 each, keep working consistently well at 280 Mbps...

Ha!
