Aaaagghhhh! Tell me it ain't so!

Was this a Beta? Could it be fixed? Is all hope lost?

It's beta for now, and really not a 'true' beta in the sense of a real test. Having features intentionally disabled just negates the reasons to, um, beta test it.

Also, I'm not sure if increased processor use was either PPro, or PPro giving prospect free reign to use all the cores. Build 110 and on (I have 113), has multicore or multithreaded code in it, and until trying CS3, I though it did. However, it would seem that in CS3 I was getting all four cores going 100%.

The only way to know for sure is to get an unlocked beta, or maybe when David gets back from NAB, he could chime in?

I did my test at the end of the day, and will resume tommorrow, and stick to SD test projects and see what else I can turn up. See how CFSD works.

I'd assume that once released, Adobe WILL release a fully-featured 15-day (or whatever) trial... so don't feel too down! Also the money for upgrade is well worth it for OnLocation alone - this is a fantastic tool (used shooting a film during their trial period when it was DVRack).

Brad... If I were you, I'd change your motherboard to one that'll take PCIe and buy a cheap 6600GT or similar... it'll not cost you much, and you'll get much better performance for all your other aps. Any PPro WILL be quicker - can't guarantee it won't crash though, so save often and keep you projects small ;)

Giving this some more thought, I will have to try some SD projects (keeping within the limits of the beta), both with and without CF presets.

I have two dual-amd opteron 270's, and I believe that my rig has dedicated data pipes for each core, to behave as four real processors. The only other way I can get 100% on all cores is using Lightwave and turning up the render threads to max (I wish I had that option in prospect).

Hopefully I can compare two identical projects between PPro2 and CS3 and get a better picture. I just upgrade some months ago, and again face an upgrade just to set things right?

Nah, I was being sarcastic. With all the BS in getting PPro to allow cineform to do it's magic... going to vegas is looking like an easy fix (the software, that is :)

However, I've been using this app for years now, with many active projects in the Premiere format. Even if I did switch, I'd have to keep PPro on the machine for the older projects. I can't win for losing...

But don't get your hopes up too much. I recently downloaded the current released trail version of PPro (non-CS3) and HD was not available. The about box stated that I would have to uninstall the trial before installing the real product. (I could not just enter the product code.)

So, I'm playing with Vegas and waiting for CS3 Master Suite to ship. I could buy PPro but it doesn't reduce the cost of getting the CS3 Master Suite, so I'd be throwing away $$$.

I downloaded the CS3 Beta, color corrected with Aspect tools, and NO CRASH!
