Hdv To Dv Aspecthd 3.2 Settings?
Well I must say I am now fully impressed with the new version of aspecthd i have for the past 6 months been sold on edius. I am demo'ing the new version and I am almost sold. I do however need a little advice as to down converting to 4x3 letterbox DV (NTSC).
Should I down convert from the directly from the HDV timeline on export or set up a standard DV(NTSC) 4x3 project and resize with in the project timeline? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks Joel |
I have been exporting right from the HDV project without a problem. It automatically creates a letterbox 4:3 format for me. But, if you bring it into a standard definition project, you will have the option of zooming in if you wish.

would you export>DV (NTSC)>4x3? thanks joel |
never mind... i figured it out. i never nknew that if i exported a 16x9 project that it would auto letterbox!!! thank you very much.
one more thing how is the quality downconvert from within ppro opposed to downconverting on the fly from the HDR-FX1? joel |
According to Spot, the camera does a better job than Premiere Pro, but Vegas does a better job than the camera. Something about the nature of the engine under the hood.
I capture HDV so I can easily zoom in while editing using a SD frame. I seldom do that anymore, but it does come up now and then. Now that I can play the M2T on my Linkplayer2, I really encourage everyone to buy one. I shot a grade school choir and was able to just take one wide shot, and then produce 6 different versions using closeups with pans in a different order. Pretty cool. |
Under Aspect HD 3.2 the down-conversion has been significantly enhanced, so I would expect very good result from a software HD to SD conversion.
|
So if all else is equal, capture HDV. You won't be sorry.

Hi Joel, read through the thread entitled "Aspect HD 3.2 now available", it covers alot of what you want to do.

Joel, the scaling is handled by the input format, so it you are using CineForm Intermediate and Aspect HD 3.2 you get the new scaling algorithms for existing codecs like DV.

thank you!
i think the downconversion is as good as downconverting from the HDR-FX1/ good job. i especially like how 3.2 handles CF30 can't wait to try CF24. thanks joel :) |
