Mercury Playback Engine
Does anyone have a feel for wherher this playback engine is real or not.

Even if it were not named for a poison, I would remain cynical.

It seems like the natural progression from the GPU accelerated Elemental HD encoder in CS4. I don't see why it wouldn't be real.

I agree!
I think it sounds credible too. And I am sure Adobe CS5 will have it and and it will work perfectly without any problems.

It's definitely real, and it's pretty amazing. Who knows if it will make it in CS5, but GPU effects processing is the future. Not a new idea though, Matrox has been doing it with Axio for over 4 years, they just never got it quite right.
This is what Obin Olson (the guy doing the demo of it at IBC) said: "The future looks like REALTIME color correct, curves, transitions, keying, noise, blur etc...approx 20+ effects in TOTAL realtime with a 4800Nvidia GPU card. OUTSTANDING performance...I have been demoing it all day and have thrown 35effects on an R3D clip without any drop frames. This IS the future. I am glad to see it happening." "I have been showing 4 layers of 4k r3d files in 1/2 res on a timeline with 5-8 effects on each clip including blur and resizing and it just can't kill it. This is the BEST thing since the NLE in my opinion. Pretty great stuff." |
Looks definitely real: John Nack on Adobe: Demo: Next-gen GPU optimizations in Adobe video apps
And it also looks pretty cool! I think it will be in CS5 for sure. |
