AE CS3->Vegas 8 with NEOScene
I've really tried to figure this out, and searched, but just can't make it work.
CF Files produced with NEOScene codec 5.0.7 If I take CF avi files into After Effects to do some effects on and then render out as CF to import into Vegas, when they get into Vegas the files are in Studio/Video RGB!! i.e. Clamped between 16-235. (I'm actually editing in Vegas, doing effects in AE using original CF, and then replacing - no render from Vegas until the end). I've tried every which way 8bit, 16bit, 32bit, with profiles, without, with PreserveRGB and without. I've tried with Rec709 on and off in CF. With other file formats it's fine, just CF. Help please! Btw Is it possible to get CF (NEOScene) to keep YUV SuperBrights from AE? Many thanks Simon |
Okay, I've found that if I put Video System RGB 'On' then Vegas spreads the video 0-255 - however I'm losing some info at the bottom (i.e. the footage is slightly darker).
Any ideas anyone? |
So either I timed my post badly, or I can't actually use Cineform as an intermediate between After Effects and Vegas?
Can anyone put me right? |
If you use 32-bit float mode and filters in AE, you are not being clamped, supers are preserved. **Just realized, while you can do 32-bit imports, Neo Scene doesn't have the 32-bit float exporter for AE, that is in Neo HD. So you will need to work around this when using Neo Scene. Use 32-bit float modes, and add 0.06 and gain of 0.86 (in float numbers), this will convert cgRGB to vsRGB (preserving highlights,) now your Neo Scene export from AE will be full range.

Thanks for reply. So do I need the vsRGB switch on or off in the CF config. box for output?
I'll try this later this evening when I get back to my office. |
If you do the gain and offset trick, your should set the encode to vsRGB with the CineForm control panel.

Okay so I found a good balance in the gain and offset - in fact turning the offset down slightly was better. I don't understand why because it's counter-logic, but it works.
Then setting the vsRGB switches gets it into Vegas great. As a matter of interest would there be a reduction upgrading to NEO HD from Scene? |
