Neoscene crushed blacks in CS4
Hi All
I downloaded and installed NeoScene, i have converted my 5D2 .mov file to .avi file using HDLINK. I then import into PPro CS4 and notice the crushed blacks. If i load the original .mov the crushed blacks do not appear. Questions: 1. am i doing something wrong? 2. am i NOT doing something i should be? 3. should i be using adj layers and reset the blacks and highlights inside PP or AE CS4? Your help, comments and suggestions would be great appreciated Thx Robert je-photo.com |
Only Neo Scene 1.1.2 adresses this with-out adding filters in post. Make sure you are running the latest version.

Sorry I forgot, more Adobe bugs. :)
CineForm output is correct, and nothing is lost or crushed. However, the MOV CS4 output overly compensates or running the wrong gamma curve. If you run the RGB parade you will see the stock CS4 output is full of holes stretching the image brighter with a gamma applied (left image) whereas CineForm is not crushed (right image.) |
OK, so in essence i would have to correct via adjustment layer to get required output given the current CS4 constraints ?

For CS4 native output, you can't reverse those holes it has created, so is not a good starting point. If you want the CineForm (correct) output to look like CS4 (wrong), add Levels with 115 gamma on RGB. Please look at the RGB Parade you will see the nothing is crushed in CineForm, it is the Adobe output that is wrong. I'm saying it like this as you making it sound like you need to correct it to look like the CS4 MOV output, when you don't.
