DPX to Cineform Question...

Hi all,

now I'm a bit confused about some stuff with your codec... the Cineform RAW format is that format that includes LOG data from bayer Sensor directly from a Camera... DPX files includes LOG data from Scanner.. Cineform intermediete is a data holder for non bayer data,,, does it hold LOG data or only linear data?
so, When I convert from DPX to cineform, does this apply LOG to LIN conversion? OR it holds the data from the Original LOG format that the dpx file had before conversion? what about vice versa?

thanks in advance!

Log in log out, linear in linear out. We do not typically change the curves, particularly for 422 and 444. As camera RAW is always linear, we do put a log curve of that as linear is bad way to compress anything. Converting form DPX files, the original curves are preserved.

that's good news, now one can consider the cineform format as a film master without any data losses except for some compression,,,
so, is there any software that can capture cineform format directly from NorthLight Scanner, instead of scanning into dpx and converting back to cineform? or maybe a plug-in for their software ...

Lasergraphics offers direct CineForm compression with their film scanners: http://www.lasergraphics.com/us/pages/products.htm If the NorthLight scanner supportd 'b64a' pixels through Quicktime, then we are ready to go.

and how can I know if the scanner support this thing or not? mainly the scanner software runs under linux platform...

If Linux then the answer is no. Sorry.
