I'd also be interested in seeing how you've set up an XL-1 with the anamorphic adapter. Any chance of seeing some images of the rods and mounts?

Thanks for the heads up.

When I get some free time I'll document my setup. I'll put some images of the rig on my website.

Great.

No need to get too detailed, a simple description will suffice!

Thanks Adrian.

Donald,

This is way after the fact...but I just wanted to say thanks for all the info you've given here! Especially the still shot examples you've provided.

Have you heard anything else regarding Tiffen coming out with a cheaper model?

John Dynes December 16th, 2002 10:50 PM

How about the 16X manual? Need lens hood!

Does anybody have any experisnce on where to get a decent lenshood and/or mattbox that will fit the 16X full manual Canon lens? Would the Tiffen or Lee work? Thanks!!

If you're referring to the XL1/XL1s lens, you must be referring to the 14x "full manual" lens since there is no 16x full manual. Correct?

Barend Onneweer December 17th, 2002 01:02 AM

Uhm, yes there is... at least I hope it does exist, because I just ordered one :-)

Oh, and for matteboxes I'm looking into the Chrosziel 4x4 DV Mattebox, which fits the Canon lenses just fine with an adapter ring. But I think Cavision also makes a decent one.

I've heard about the Lee mattebox being used with the XL-1, so that will probably be fine too.

Dylan Couper December 17th, 2002 02:11 AM

That lens is what we refer to as the 16x manual, but it does have some auto functions available (auto iris), so might not be considered "full manual" by some, whereas the 14x lens has no automatic functions and may be more suited to the title of "full manual".
That is what Ken's statement is based on, so really everyone is right.

John Dynes December 17th, 2002 08:50 AM

It is the 16X manual lens with auto iris. Howz that? :) I shouldn't type past midnight! I also should have mentioned that I am using a Century Optics .7 zoom thru wide eye. So thats what I need as far as geting a lens hood/matte box to fit on!

I will not type late at night I will not type late at night I will not type late at night I will not type late at night I will not type late at night I will not type late at night

The 16x is manual, but you have the option of using the motorized zoom from the controls on the camera or other device (LANC ,etc )

How does the CaVision rods connect to your tripod plate? I have a Bogen/Manfrotto and I wonder will the Cavision plate work with standard sized tripod plates?

Josh Bass December 22nd, 2002 12:56 AM

Rods don't connect to your tripod plate. They connect to a mounting plate that screws into the tripod plate screw hole. The mounting plate has its own screw hole, where you attach the tripod plate.
