The MA-100 does not provide phantom power. So with the ME66 you need to use the K6 module with the internal AA battery present. (Sennheiser does offer another power module for the ME66 that does NOT support use of a AA battery and requires phantom power).
The K6 module can also use phantom power if it is available. But if you are using the MA-100 and want to use phantom power, you will have to provide an external phantom power source - probably not worth the effort since AA batteries are low cost, convenient., and work. |
Ah. Okay. Thanks for clearing that up.

Audio Technica AT8415/XL1s
Hello. I have a Sennhesier ME66 shotgun mic, a Lightwave systems MM-XL1 universal mini mount and an Audio Technica AT8415 shock mount. Is it possible for me to somehow attach the 8415 to my XL1s in any way? Does it attach to the mini mount any way? Anywhere? There has to be a way to rig it up somehow which leads me to my next move.
I would like to attach my shotgun mic through the shock mount and attach my regular Canon stereo mic though the mini mount. I want to do a shoot and capture audio on both mics. How do I go about doing that? Put the camera menu settings on 12 bit 4 channels, and thats it? Thanks for the help guys. -Ryan |
12-bit mode will do what you want. You will probably want to use an XLR adapter, such as the MA-100 to adapt the signal from the ME66 to the Audio 2 input. Some folks have found setting up the 12-bit mode to be almost as difficult as programming their VCRs, so practice it first to get it down pat before a money shoot
Someone else will have to comment on using a 8415 with the mini-mount system. Might look a bit unusual. |
Yea I have the MA-100, thanks Don.

Tune-up Timetable
Wondering how others determine when their XL-1 should go in for preventive maintenance. Hours of use, every year? Every time Pauly Shore makes a really good movie?
How long does it take? Is it usually all cleaning and adjusting or are there wearable new parts needed? How much does Canon charge? Thanks! |
I'm a, If it ain't broke, don't fix it, guy. But I also have a backup camera. I would suggest an annual checkup if you want to be on the safe side.

Battery Charger Isn't charging
My XL1 charger/adaptor will suddenly no longer charge batteries. Thankfully, it will still power the camera. I think this must have something to do with the contacts or the snugness of the connection. I cleaned the contacts, but it still won't charge.
Anyone else have this problem? Any easy fixes or even not so easy fixes? Thanks! |
This is going be a repair issue for Canon USA; if you bought the camera from an authorized U.S. dealer less than a year ago then it should be covered by warranty.
Or you could replace it with a third-party dual batt. charger from VariZoom (you'd have it in a day as they are also in Austin). For a review, see http://www.dvinfo.net/sony/articles/article09.php This is on the VX2000 site, however the charger comes with adapter plates for Canon batts. I use one myself and it works fine. Hope this helps, |

Very nice! Wondering what the TTM (Time to Market) will be on
that technology. As always, we'll have to wait and see. Thanks! |
