XL1s HD Upgrade Card?
Hi All,
There is a guy selling a used XL1s on ebay, and mentioned something about "HD upgradable" so, I asked him, and he said that you can send these into Canon, and they sell a HD Card that will allow HD content to be captured? Seems unlikely, but is there any truth to this? - I thought that the biggest limitation would be the CCD's in any SD camera - since an HD camera's CCDs or sensors have many more pixels? - but on can dream... I know there is software that will upconvert SD to HD (in fact I have a plug in for FCP that does just that) - but it's not the same as recording native 1080P - correct? Please, someone tell me I'm Dreaming than an XL1s can record in HD :-) Cheers! |
The XL1s cannot record HD. There is no conversion offered, and the CCD block is limited to SD resolution. HOWEVER! I suppose someone could make a device that would encode a HD video stream to a SD signal, and you could then record it to the XL1s. You would need a appropriate COder and decoder to do it. However, I cannot imagine a market for such a device.
Woudl be lower cost to buy a small HDV or similar camcorder such as a HV20. (Note that at one time in the (late 1980s or early 1990s) there was a device offered that used VHS recorder and tape to do computer back-up tapes. The data was encoded into a video signal (but probably not worth watching). |
Hi Rob..........
You must have heard this old addage before:
"If it sounds too good to be true, in all likelyhood, it is." You're having your chain pulled, big time. E - bay should know better than to let shark oil salesmen like this one operate. It's a scam, con, rip off and total load of bollocks. Back to reality, I'm afraid. CS |
Note that you could always contact Canon to check/verify.
Canon developed a 3-D lens for the XL1. I saw it a demo of it at an exposition in NYC about 8 years ago. It never went into production. Maybe I could sell my XL1 as a 3-D camcorder, tell buyers shen need to find the lens. I understand that about 8 were made. At one time Canon even sold an Edit Controller, the ED-100. It used LANC and IR control protocols. |
Rob, please send me an email (chris at dv info dot net) with a link to this Ebay auction. I'd like to look it over, and if necessary report the seller to Ebay for fraud.
