Time Laps with XL1s
 

Can anyone give me some tips on doing a time lapse sunrise with my Xl1s?

I have done them before and they looked ok but I know there are things I could do to make them looks better. Does the camera have to be on automatic so the iris will close slowly as the sun rises?

Any tips / instruction on doing this would be greatly appreciated.

Try search the forum on "time lapse," you will find many threads over the years that should provide some items of interest.

I always search before I post and I really didn't see anything that broke it down really well, also my question was for someone that had some experience doing it with an XL1s. Although time lapse is time lapse I thought id ask an xl1s owner.

If you could provide some links Don, to the threads your talking about, that would be helpful.

XL1 does not have that feature. I cannot remember which Canon had time lapse function, but there is one that was a 3CCD that did. It is probably available for a reasonable cost.

So what is the difference between setting up my camera on a tripod and letting it record for 1 hour and then speeding it up in software and a time lapse function on the camera?

Just the runtime on the head. That is the technique that some have used.

If you have the money, you could get something like a FireStore that records on disk instead on tape.
