Need help !! New to XL2.
 

Can anyone tell me the best way to setup the xl2 to shoot a soccer match.?
i wanted fast paced tackles , close up on footwork etc ??

any advice would be appreciated

Practice, practice and more practice is the best advice anyone can give
you probably. It is THE best way to learn your new camera, what works
and doesn't. Which look you like etc.

We all have gone through that route. Please take the time to do the same.

However, for fast paced action it usually wise to use high shutter speeds
(like 1/100th) to capture the motion (less motion blur) together with manual
focus so the camera is not hunting focus all of the time.

Usually it is best to shoot in interlaced (60i) as well since you will have
more information (time wise) to see the fast action.

Des...I've shot a fair amount of soccer, the biggest thing is to remember the basics...

Use a tripod. This is an absolute must for soccer, or any sport where you use a long lens. Remember, if you're using the tripod, take it off auto-stabilization...

Lead the action...Keep plenty of room in the frame for the action to develop in front of the ball. Remember the rule of thirds...

Get footage of action away from the ball. I would focus in on specific players, whether they have the ball or not...Great for cutaways and sometimes will result in good surprises. Just hope that nothing happens like a score when you're doing that.

Keep the camera rolling. In soccer, you never know when something fun will develop.

I say, grab a wide angle lense, hold the cam by the top handle and pistol grip (First finger right under the microphoen in the slot) and run along side the feild to get amazing shots. (If you can get on the feild). Zoom in all the way (3x) and use it below waiust level to keep your shots stead. Strafe sideways to get amaziong travelloing shots. The weight of the XL2 is perfect for steady shots like this.
