sunset pacific nw driftwood fishing
I discovered this while trolling for A1 footage:
http://www.stefweb.net/cinematography/Water720P.wmv Nice job! |
I learn something about camera movement every time I watch one of the clips from here. And I noticed on this one that the footage is running backwards on the first clip. Interesting eh?
|
Are you sure this is A1 Footage? I mean it surely looks awesome . After looking at this guys work, I know he used to use a panny on his Awake movie. Does he own an A1 now?
|
It's definitely A1 footage. I love the shot of the fisherman in standing in the water with the mountains in the background. Beautiful.

Thanks for the link. Great stuff.

great footage..
I'm waiting an external monitor since I understand that the best results you can have only if you see what's goin'on with your shots. the monitor is this one: http://www.proav.co.uk/product_info....4258291dfad33e You said you adjust some camera settings, you mean also that part of color presets? and you got changes you could see on the monitor? you said also you calibrated it before... how? I will have my first external monitor and cannot figure out how to calibrate it :-) ciao! |
This is really beautiful footage. Notice the people walking backwards in the first shot? :)
It looks very "Magic Bullet" to me which is adding a kind of magical sense to the place. Nice work Stefan. |
Great footage! I love that you can still see detail in the snow capped mountains way off in the distance. That's one of my pet peeves about video camcorders, I love that the XH A1 can resolve detail in the distance that far back.

Does anyone else notice the color separation in the top corner? Is that typical of the A1?

Yes, the A1 does display some red/green colour fringing on high contrast edges, under certain lighting conditions.
Canon apparently have worked to minimise the amount of CA on the lens, but you appear to get a tight fringe of red/green towards the edges of the lens. I suspect it's a combination of the lens, CCD blooming, and the limited colour resolution of HDV. Of the other cameras in this sort of prosumer range, most display some colour fringing. The Sony V1 has a comperable amount. The Canon H1 is just a touch worse. The fringing on the Sony FX1/Z1 seems to be slightly softer in appearance, and the colours aren't as intense. It's there but not very noticable. The original lens that came with the JVC GY-HD100 was truly horrible with the amount of CA that it displayed. And the only camera that I've seen in the prosumer range that has a truly "negligible" amount of CA is the HVX200. I've never seen a clip that displayed CA. |
