If you use rycote softiemounts with a sennheiser 416/18 you need the small hole, the sennheiser is only 19mm. But the AKG Blue line is 21 so you need the medium hole and the AT 4073a -much used in USA- is medium hole too. So if you put the sennheiser in a rubber tube, you give it extra isolation and you can fit it in the medium hole and don't need to buy another mount if you switch mics.

This is a common problem with the Sony and Canon cameras that is addressed with The J-Rod. I have made a product that helps solve this problem. It allows the mounting any sized mic, moves the mic back out of the shot, and allows a radio receiver to be mounted instead of a mic, which leaves the shoe on the camera available for a light :
