Field of View comparisons: with and without WA adapter
4 Attachment(s)
Canon XH with and without the WD-H72 0.8x wide angle adapter. All of these still photos were shot at f/3.7 in order to maintain consistency throughout the spread; the XL H1 was also part of this series and the max. aperture on its 20x lens at full tele is f/3.5, so that was my baseline for everything. Zero db gain. Shutter 1/30th. Subject is the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Full wide and full telephoto with both XL HD lenses, the 20x and 6x. Click thumbnails to see the full-size versions.
Compare these with the same images from the XL HD 20x and 6x lenses at http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?p=581966 |
Thanks Chris.

Dang! I thought the tripod was level, but...

This adapter is sweet! Thanks Chris.

Thanks Chris, very useful.
And that does look like a high quality lens.. |
Thanks Chris,
this comparison was extremely useful, really :) I wish to see the lens in boxy places moving around and how the straight lines would do !!!! Amr |
Chris, I asked this in another thread, but still don't know if the WD-H72's hood comes with an opening for the IAF lamp on the A1?
|
No it doesn't, but it's not a major problem because pretty much everything is in focus when you're that wide.

It is a full zoom-through adapter. The Instant AF function is not compatible with it because the sensor is blocked by the adapter barrel (not the hood). Of course you still have the ability to use Normal AF with this adapter.

I have read in the manual that "Push AF" on the A1 uses "instant focus" no matter if it is set to off at other times. This means that you can not use "push AF' with the WA because the instant focus lens is blocked. Can you verifiy this.
I haven't received my A1 yet. |

I'm on the verge of buying a Zunow WA lens for the A1 which i tried out yesterday at Videoforum 2007. It made a huge difference to the image and was reasonably priced at £385 B4 VAT. How much is the Canon one (in the UK) and is it reccomended over other brands?
|
Hello, I might be a bit late now but I have found the zunow for only £325 + 7.50 P&P at-
pec.co.uk/oscommerce-2.2ms2/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=246&products_id=1687 I too am looking for a high quaility wide converter for my A1 but do not want to spent £800 on a century, however I would like something wider than even the zunow but one which still remains full zoom-through. |
