Canon Frame mode - which NLE's support it?
Which NLE's are currently supporting Canon 24F? I have read that the latest update for Final Cut supports it. But what about Xpress Pro, Vegas and Premiere? I am eager to find out.
|
Adobe has a 24F preset you can download for Premiere. It allows capture and edit, but no output to tape in 24F.
Don't know about the others... |
Avid -- not yet. However, Edius from Canopus / Grass Valley was the first NLE to support 24F.
|
Apple Final Cut Pro version 5.2 is working beautifully with Canon 24F for me.
|
Don't forget FCP will actually output 24F natively back to tape. True 24p sequences back to tape.
It's actually FCP 5.1.2 that has 24F support, currently. |
We just did the 5.1.2 upgrade, and yes, it does support it.
|
30f?
What about 30F ???
|
No 30F support just yet. I'm sure it's coming, but it's just late, like everything else.
|
Ok, can Adobe Premiere / Sony Vegas 24F support expected? I believe Adobe has 24F support but cannot be transported back to tape at this time?
|
Gotta love FCP! Sorry dont mean to start a NLE flame war.....Feel sorry for the xl h1 users who had to wait though. But I am also working with a HVX and the update to FCP has made the p2 workflow so much better.
|
Gotta love how the MBP's don't have a pcmcia slot.
|
Noel, how do you handle archiving with P2? In other words, how do you file your "original tapes"? Or, what medium do you use for that purpose, I should ask.
|
Vegas and Premiere?

Unfortunately, G5s are no more.. I have a quad and wanted another one before the "Pro", got online and discovered I've missed the boat... Box stores may still have them (I buy from the Apple Store usually).. but act fast unless you want another year of sorting out growing-pain issues with a new product...
|
You can always pick up a refurb, Apple's got them here:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....0.8.7.1.0.1.1 dual and quad G5 currently available but probably wont last too long. |
If you are a premiere pro guy such as my self, one way to deal with the export to tape situation is to export the final edited file and than play it back from another software that allows export to tape. It sucks but so far it would be the only way. I hope adobe comes up with a solution for this. I export ALL my projects to tape, dvd, and vcd (for different purposes).

Any idea who/where to ask about Avid 24f support?
|
What about 25F? Which NLEs are currently supporting that?
|
I am still eager to find out if Sony Vegas supports the 24F/25F modes.

Yes, Vegas works just great with 24F, 25F, 30F. |
Final Cut Express?
Does it take 24f?

25f workflow: which NLE?
Sorry if this was already discussed, but I only just joined this forum: do Vegas or Premiere support the Canon A1's 25f mode, and what is the recommended workflow? I've just captured my first material in 25f, but what template I should be using? In Vegas or Premiere, there's no a 1080/25p template that Edius offers - will I have to get Cineform?
|
Will there ever be 24f to tape possibility? or is it a hardware impossibility?

Thanks Kuba! This fixes my problem with Premiere, but how about Vegas? Somebody o this board laims it supports 25f as well - perhaps he meant with Cineform plug-in?
Speaking of Aspect: I have my trial period over, and even though I uninstalled the software, Adobe still displays the message from Cineform that my trial is over and I should buy the key. Which I won't, because my Core 2 Quad is fast enough with raw m2ts. How to get rif of it? [sorry for OT] |
Piotr -- please post that question in our CineForm forum, I'm sure you'll get an answer there.
|
Is the 25f function a true 25p output? And presumably it can be edited in a 50i stream in any editing program, right? Or am I wrong?

Anyway, you can easily build your own 25p template just by copying the existing 24p template and changing the frame rate. |
Anyone use Avid Liquid 7 with the A1?
