Century .8x Vignettes?

Hi Folks,
Just got the Century .8x (model OVS-08CV-72) and its vignetting at full wide. Kind of defeats the purpose of a wide angle adapter.

Anybody else have this problem?

Many thanks,
Peter

Have not use the 0.8x, but there are two possible issues.

Do you have a filter on the A1? That can make vignetting worse in some situations.

The 0.8x may have been designed for lenses such as on the XL series with a 5.4mm minimum focal length. The XH A1 has a 4.5 mm minimum focal length, and may be too wide to allow full range use with the Century 0.8x.

It is perhaps interesting to note that the front of the Century is 90 mm wide, while the Canon WD-H72 is more like 109 mm wide. But that in and of itself may not mean much.

No filter on the front. There is an 86mm front thread, for those who are curious. And an included hood. This lens is listed as compatible with the A1 on Century's website.

I'm using the spacer ring included with the lens for XL lenses. The A1 is an XH, so maybe I don't need the spacer ring. But I'm afraid to try it before getting verification that it won't scratch my lens.

Anybody using the Century .8x with the A1?

Thanks.

A spacer certainly could add to a vignetting. Call Century and ask them.

Solved - Spacer not needed

Thanks. This list is so great, I never thought to call the manufacturer's customer support!

Century confirmed that the spacer ring is not necessary. Mounting the lens directly, there's no vignette.

Thanks!
