Canon XF300- HDMI to SDI converter
Hi guys. I'm sure this has been answered before...
I have been doing live feeds to screens in some conferences and live shows and I have used the BNC connection on the XF300 and the SD signal has been acceptable... but recently I did a bigger show and the screens were really gigantic and the SD quality out of the BNC was painful to watch! So..the AV company told me that they need an SDI HD signal next time.. so I guess I will have to get a HDMI to SDI that lets me give the AV company an HD signal.... which one would you recommend that is affordable? Any restrictions so far as frame rates etc.. I definitely need one..(I wish I could have afforded the XF305!) thanks Erick |
Re: Canon XF300- HDMI to SDI converter
Without a shade of a doubt I would consider the Atomos converters. Pretty well priced, small, high quality and well made. They make HDMI to SDI and vic-a-versa. The model you would be after would be the Connect H2S. This is HDMI in with two HD-SDI out. They have about an hour's run time on an internal battery or around ten hours on a small Sony camcorder battery. Just tape it to the tripod leg or even the camera handle if you have to be hand held. Check them out here.

Re: Canon XF300- HDMI to SDI converter
Hi Erick,
I have the Atomos convertor. It works well. Just make sure your monitor can handle a 3G-SDI converted signal and you should be good to go. I bought this one, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/964935-REG/atomos_atomh2s002_1xh2s_converter_1_2600mah.html |
Re: Canon XF300- HDMI to SDI converter
awesome! thanks so much for the help...I will get it for sure- so far very happy with my Canon XF300 and with this adaptor I wil also be able to use the XF100 to provide a HD live feed if needed.

Re: Canon XF300- HDMI to SDI converter
Both AJA and Black Magic make converters as well that work great.

Re: Canon XF300- HDMI to SDI converter
Right..AJA and Black Magic...I like the concept of the Atomos because it uses a common Sony Battery. Does any other converter have a similar concept? I will try to get the Atomos locally here in Toronto and try it. If I like it, I will put some velcro on the bottom of it so that I can attach it to my camera or a tripod if needed. Old school rules!
