HV20 and 35MM Adapter
 

Any one has successfully mounted a 35MM adapter to the HV20 yet? If yes, please post some feedback....

I am thinking of RedRock adapter.... but have not figured out the mounting plan.

Try www.cinevate.com there are samples of HV20 footage as well as pics of the rig I think. Brevis would be much better than M2 IMHO.

I have a Cinevate mounted on an HV20 - worked fine - get the achromat and a spacer though. And, rails would help...

Very fast setup and strip down - glad I got it.

Does it invert the picture? So you have the image upside down?

The image is really sharp and when you see the comparison of with/without the M2 adapter you can see the bokeh/depth of field the adapter adds

WOW... that was awesome... I LOVED IT.. Thats exactly what I want... ... I am having trouble figuring out exactly what I need to get. I saw the whole kit... and it goes for about $1500.... But can I just get the adapter for $500 and the rails and not the whole kit?

Thats why I wanted to see some pics of things rigged together... saw the pics in the other post looks great... So what would that setup cost? is it 500 for unit plus the rails? ( i have plenty of nikon lenses)..... Trying to see how much i need to come with... Huge thanks!

The kit for that camera is more like $1295. In addition to the adapter, you will need rod support and an achromat - pretty much what we sell in our HD Bundle kit. You'll also need a small step ring, but that is very inexpensive (around $8 or so) via someone like adapterrings.com

Some other approaches suggest you do not need rods, but in practice most people really do end up needing them

I also have an Canon XH-A1... and the fact that one can use an adapter ring would make the setup usable for both Cams I presume (just by changing the adapter )

Yep - same Redrock adapter, all cameras.

Max, the HV20 has been a lot of fun to shoot with :-) We shot this footage with apertures etc. set for max sharpness with great results. In about two weeks we'll have our brand new carbon fibre rails system released which should complement the camera nicely with respect to weight. I own both the XH-A1 and HV20 and use them as representative test cams with the adapter.

Dennis - what's the deal with the lens mounts. Can I switch mounts myself or do they come permanently attached to the adapter?

Peter, they're interchangeable. We're just in the process of integrating a "micro-collimation" feature which will make precise and perfectly aligned collimation fine tuning of each mount type a snap without measuring anything. The PL and OCT19 mounts already have it integrated.

Wow,,, saw the footage... some amazing stuff.... Add some "scratches" with magic bullet and it would look just like film...

Do you by any chance have a picture of the setup that you used to do the footage.

Including the matter box.....

I would love to know the relative size of the whole thing....


My primary reason for getting HV20 was it's size as I could do some "guerrilla shooting" in places...... Showing up with HX-A1 made me look too "PRO"

I'd love to see one of these setups with a super rotator lens...

I don't know if Dennis actually used this full set up for that particular shoot, but this is a pic of his HV20 setup "on roids", as he says:

That setup is pretty much the rig, although the Marshall and 12Volt power supply for it were not used. Without a really good shade, the Marshall is useless in bright sunshine. We're working on some shots with the rig mounted to a full suspension mountain bike..hopefully the HV20's "crash cam" designation does come to fruition :-)

For those who like to shoulder mount shoot hand held, I have a DIY shoulder mount that I tried the other day shooting through the dreaded HV20 view finder. I was extremely surprised that I was able to focus pretty decently using the viewfinder and my Letus35a-- a big surprise to me, because I had counted the viewfinder out for those purposes, espeically withy my old eyes.. Over course, it was upside down....

On the off chance I get a Sundance Grant (yeah, right), I know what I'm getting.
