Locked Shutter with Cine Mode?
 

Is there a way to lock the shutter to 48 while using Cine Mode? If not, how are you guy's bringing down the sharpness to help get rid of the soap opera look?

I know how to do the trick in keeping the gain down but I am having trouble using the Cine Mode. I noticed a lot of people really like Cine Mode for the lattitude in post.

You cannot lock it, but you can keep it at 1/48 by controlling aperture. From my experiments, it seems to me that the camera tries to stay at 1/48 if there is just enough light to allow iris opening wider than f/8.

If you have more light than needed (or if you are decreasing exposure using the manual exposure slider) the camera stays at f/8.0 and ramps up shutter speed up to 1/500s; if this is not enough it starts closing up the iris.

On the dark side, if the iris is fully open -- which can be anywhere from f/3.0 to f/1.8 depending on current zoom -- and there is not enough light, the camera decreases shutter speed. It seems that gain kicks in after shutter speed slows down to 1/24. Same happens if you increase exposure in manual mode in low light.
