Just got the HV20 today but!!!
 

Well this is weird or maybe not. I just got the HV20 today and I did some test video and I was all ready to transfer it to the computer, but to my surprise there is no fire wire cable in the box, what gives?

All that is in the box is USB cables, stereo cables, etc but no IEEE cables?

How do you transfer with no cables?

Am I missing something?

Do I need to buy a cable or was one suppose to come with it?

I am new to video here and assumed it would come with everything in the box.

Anyone?

You need a Firewire cable and if your computer doesn't have one, a Firewire card.

You'll have to buy it, unfortunately.

Be sure to check your computer's firewire port to see if it is 6-pin or 4-pin.

The firewire port on the HV-20 is 4-pin.

So you either need a 4-pin to 4-pin cable or a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. A 6-pin to 6-pin cable will not work.

Many laptops have 4-pin firewire ports.

Many desktops, that have firewire have a 6-pin port, and then may have a second 4-pin port.

The 6-pin port is wider, about 1/2" in width.

If everyone needed the same cable, it would be easier for the manufacturers to include one. I assume that they balk on having to supply two cables.

OK thanks. I just realized that my laptop which I was not planning on using has an HDMI port. Would it be worth using that to transfer from the Cam to the Laptop then transfer over to the desktop for editing?

Dear Kevin,

I do not think you will be able to capture via HDMI. I do not know of any economical way to capture via HDMI.

You need to capture via Firewire, just get the proper firewire cable as I mentioned in a previous post.
