Canon Optura 20
Anyone use the optura before? It looks pretty good to me. Seems to have everything you actually need.

I just had another look at one last evening. It was going for pretty cheap. I'm sure it's a good cam for the money. It's not high end in the 1 chip arena, and not new, but I'm sure it's one of the better models out there. The new Optura 300 looks and feels a lot nicer, though, plus it's an "upright."

Compared to the zr series is this a better looking picture and all around better camera? I had a ultura which did good is it better than that? Just looking for a good 2nd camera. Thanks Tony B |
I never compared a ZR and Optura 20, but I would guess the Optura 20 is a much better cam with much better video quality. Any Optura is at the top end of Canon's 1-CCD line, while all ZR's are at the bottom.

Ok good.... I'm just use to using $10k cameras on the highend side but don't know much about these little one chippers ...there are so many!!!! gives me a headache...ugh
Is there a after market mic hotshoe adapter ...for the optura in case of motor noise? Tony |
Tony, I can't recall if the Optura 20 has a hot-shoe. Check here:
http://www.canondv.com Canon does make a good hot-shoe mic for their 1-chip line. |
If you don't need good low light performance, the Optura 20 gives a really nice picture!
|
That's the feedback I got as well. The older Optura 100MC is a lot better cam.
|
The Optura 20 does in fact include the Advanced Accessory Shoe.

Consider this?
If you're looking at 1 CCDs, you might see if you can find a DV852. There was a lot of discussion on this site about how good this camera was/is. I snagged one off Ebay a couple of weeks ago for $499 and it's absolutely great! Another one sold this week on Ebay with a reserve of $500.
The picture quality and image stabilizer on this camera is very good. Tommy |
