Widescreen Magnifier to Unsqueeze In-Camera 16:9?
i'm considering shooting a project using the GL2's 16:9 squeeze mode. am wondering if this piece of equipment from century optics would work to unsqueeze the image on the LCD:
http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/dv/lcd/lcd_ws.htm it's intended to be used in conjunction with their 16:9 adapter, but my guess is that it would work just fine to unsqueeze the distorted image delivered to the LCD when using the in-camera 16:9 mode. also, if anybody's used this thing, i'd be curious how they liked it. thanks, phb |
Looks like it would work. I see it costs $225.

a mere $199.95 from B&H. which i'd be willing to pay, if it does the trick...

Not to rain on your parade.... but $200 is a lot to spend on a camera which doesn't do "real 16:9" in the first place. Yes, the GL2 records in the anamorphic format, but it's created from a letterboxed 4:3 image with only 360 vertical lines of resolution.
If 16:9 is important to you, and you aren't satisfied with the existing mode on your GL2, then IMO the money would be better spend towards getting a newer camera with native 16:9 capability. But of course this is just my personal "logic".... :-) |
