mkiii No hdmi signal to Alphatron EVF
Hi All,
I have just purchased a mkiii with an Alphatron EVF. When I connect the iii to the EVF by hdmi I simply get the message SDI no signal. There are no settings on the EVF to toggle between hdmi and SDI input (am I right in thinking the EVF should automatically pick up the hdmi signal anyway?). Black screen with the above message - called the supplier they said probably an issue with the hdmi lead. Before I go out and buy another lead, anyone got any thoughts - lead was brand new, no reason to think it wouldn't work. Thanks in advance Keith |
Re: mkiii No hdmi signal to Alphatron EVF
Keith, I had no end of hassle with my Zacuto and Mk3. After my Zacuto HDMI fell apart after one wedding I bought an Ebay mini HDMI to HDMI, 'no signal', tried another 'no signal'. I really thought my HDMI port was stuffed until I bought an adaptor (mini HDMI to full size) and used that with a high quality HDMI to HDMI cable.
All cables are not equal. Even now with my LockPort device installed to keep the connection secure, I only have to nudge the cable in the wrong way and it can lose signal for an instant. It can also make a difference in the order you turn on the camera and monitor. My advice is to confirm you cable is working on a TV or other device or take your setup to a shop to try out others before you buy. |
Re: mkiii No hdmi signal to Alphatron EVF
Hi Dan,
Thanks very much for the advice, will check out the cable situation before investigating any further - was wondering if there was simply an output setting on the 5D that I had overlooked or something. Thanks again Keith |
Re: mkiii No hdmi signal to Alphatron EVF
Maybe a bit of a tangent, but I have an eBay sourced 7 inch monitor that worked really quite nicely with my 1DMK4 untill I removed the supplied cable from the camera, and left half the pins in the socket!!! Not good. A replacement mini to full sized HDMI cable from our Dick Smith Electronics (I am in NZ) did not work in the 1DMK4, and I never got round to sorting the problem. But the monitor works perfectly with the new cable on my XF300.
Apart from the shite cable, the cheapish monitor is a very usable bit of kit. Easily good enough to adjust focus for instance. I'm pretty sure this is the same thing: 7 Inch On Camera HD DSLR Monitor (HDMI In + Out) | Trade Me |
