ProRes file size BALLOON
How big do ProRes files get relative to the source file (h.264)?
I've read 30x and 5x? Trying to figure out how much storage to allocate. THX! |
Source files are approximately 48mbps, so...
ProRes Proxy - 45 (1x) ProRes LT - 102 (2.5x) ProRes - 147 (3x) ProRes HQ - 220 (4.5x) ProRes 4:4:4 - 330 (7x) I've been using the regular ProRes, don't see much gain above that, haven't tried LT or Proxy yet. |
On my last wedding I saw about 2.7x inflation.

Yep, it's just about 3x as big with normal ProRes. Definitely good to invest in extra drives if you're doing a large project. I just filled up a 2 TB drive with footage for a feature, and it's not even finished!
I can't see how anything could make the file sizes 30x bigger, unless someone was talking about a big non-ProRes codec, like Animation or Uncompressed 8-bit, etc. — file sizes go absolutely insane at that point. |
