Nikon Lens Question
 

Can someone tell me if this lens will work on my Mark II?

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens

What are the necessary specs I need to be aware of? Thanks for any help.

Maybe no one knows.

The flange to focal plane distance of the Nikon lens system is I believe 46.5mm. The Canon may be shorter. If it is longer, then there may not be an adaptor mount available, certainly not a cheap and straightforward one as there would be added optics required to make it work.

Look up Les Bosher on www.lesbosher.co.uk. If there is a Nikon to Canon camara lens adaptor at all, it will be on his list.

Most bang-for-the-buck with Nikon (Nikkor) lenses on Canon EOS cameras will be found with the AI and AIS manual focus models.

It is also possible to use various Contax/Zeiss and Leica lenses, but that is another issue, since some of those lenses have mounting/mirror clearance issues. (However, I am using a Zeiss 35-70 f3.4 Vario-Sonnar on my 5DMkII with excellent results.)

It will work with a simple adapter. The only thing to look out for with Nikons is that some of the newest ones do not have aperture rings, but all MF ones and most AF ones until very recently do. The other negative thing about the AF lenses is the general build quality and poor focussing ring action (they were not built for MF so much of course). Most of the older F Nikons had a lovely damped focus action - although if they are old they may need a service to get them running smoothly again.
