I think the card type can in fact, if not exclusively, be at cause. Another shooter was having his 550d overheating in 2 minutes at normal ambient temperatures until he replaced his memory card. Here's the link, it might make you laugh. :) http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-eo...movie-cam.html |
I find that my 7D only overheats when the CF card is over 85% full. Otherwise no issues at all.

First time I used my 7D at an outdoor wedding, it overheats like crazy, despite standing under a shade. I had to switch off and on almost every 15 minutes, luckily it didn't die on me during the important parts.
Following that, strangely enough, it never overheats again. I thought the firmware update fixed it and I did upgrade my CF to a 60MB/s. Although I haven't yet try it in the summer season here in Australia where the ambient temp is 30-40 deg C. Maybe I should prepare some of those ice packs now as I'm entering summer in a month time... |
The latest firmware helped a lot and since updating it I have no heat warnings anymore. Before the update it happened mostly in 720/50p mode as if the camera had to "work harder" resulting in getting warm.
Thanks. Johnnie |
