Overheating

Hey Guys -

From the folks that already got their hands on the 550's, would you try to shoot as long as possible with it? See when it overheats? (Even after the initial 12 minutes, keep at it)

Just ran mine for 4 back to back 12 minute clips at full 1920x1080 30p resolution, and had no problem whatsoever. No overheating, no warnings, nothing.

The 7D has to deal with the heat from Dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors while the 550D only has a single DIGIC 4. I'm going to see if a Sandisk Ultra keeps up. I'll watch for temp warning. Although Texas in the summer will be the real test.

Sounds brilliant -

Now we'll need Magic Lantern to remove the timelimit, and we're set :]
I wonder if we can build a nice 'heatsink' or method to cool it off, to keep the sensor happy

There are report that it also overheat.

Yes I've experienced it, though the camera never shut off. Camera was on for the entire battery and recording about half the time, was warm to the touch.

Warm to touch - mmm, How come no one made some DIY Heatsink - that could be an interesting DIY project :>

1 hour 15 minutes, but guys this could change tommorow, different location, warmer weather etc etc. There is a guy on Vimeo who has done a side by side test with a 550d and a 7d. He also got 1 hour 15 minutes from the 550d, the 7 d was still going strong after 90 minutes. Just accept that this amazingly cheap little cam is not designed the way that a video camcorder is. Use it for as long as you can, but it is very likely to bite back if you overdo it. I see it as an amazing b cam to my EX1r, and use it accordingly.
