C100: Any interesting custom Picture Profiles out there?

I'd be very interested in a midway profile between EOS standard and Wide Dynamic Range if anyone had one?

We generated a lot of CP files for the old XH series... share your presets and let's do it again for Cinema EOS!

I ported the AbelCine C300 Picture Profiles to the C100 which can be found here. Admin note: Files attached below.

I also have setup the C300/Arri Alex matching from this Art Adams article as a profile you can download here. Admin note: Files attached below.

Just an FYI, I set the gamma to Cinema2 because Adams, in a separate article, mentioned that he felt it held the highlights better. Sharpening is also set to the minimum.

Your mileage may vary, of course. These are all originally intended for the C300, and reports differ on how close the two match out of the box. I would say most differences would be slight.

But feel free to contribute to the "Buy Gary Huff a X-Rite MSDCCSG Digital ColorChecker Fund" if you find these helpful! :-D

you could have a look at these...

TRUvid2 = CPICT301.CPF

TRUcine = CPICT302.CPF

TRUlog = CPICT302.CPF

Admin note: link replaced with actual file downloads

What I meant to say is, please share your settings right here on the forum -- the setting values and the files themselves. We can host the files directly, no need for off-site download links, zip files or anything other than the actual .CPF files that go straight to the camera (plus the details about the settings themselves, preferably!) -- thanks in advance!

The TRU picture profiles are great, but they need to be ported to the C100, as here.

Note: I would gladly attach the CPF files themselves, but I currently do not have privileges to do so, so I appreciate the adjustment of the post. Thanks!

Hey Gary, how did you port the files to the C100, just a manual input? Thanks for sharing.

Yes. Thanks to Texas Media Systems, I was able to load them into a C300, then just documented the values.

There are differing reports as to how close the C100/C300 match up, with some reporting some tweaking needed and others reporting they match exactly, so your mileage may vary.

Here is a link to Alan Roberts analysis and recommended settings for the C300:

http://cpn.canon-europe.com/files/ne...n_EOS_C300.pdf

Not surprisingly, he likes the C300. The C300 and C100 are so similar that I have adjusted a custom profile to reflect his recommendations. He has a set for video (Rec709) and "film" uses. I applied his video settings, added a bit more gain to the color matrix (+10), and boosted the low key saturation a little (+8) to provide a slightly more saturated look. His sharpness settings are near the default. Since the C100 uses AVCHD which may create more sharpening artifacts, I turned sharpening all the way down to -10. This still gives me plenty of resolution and it avoids artifacts that I see in the high-detail scenes I like to shoot. The result is a look that is fairly faithful to reality and not in need of as much post work as some of the other profiles.

I have seen some beautiful footage shot by others with the EOS Standard, but the high-detail scenes I like to shoot have a lot of muddy artifacts on small branches, pine needles, and grasses when I have used this profile.

Anyone else have some new thoughts on custom profiles?

Cheers,

Pat

Pat - any chance you could you share your scene file? It sounds close to what I'm after.

Thanks!
Dave

I did, but apparently there was a mixup with the attached files. The real ones are here.
