Character 1: "You're not Martin." Character 2: "No." Character 1: "Who are you?" Character 2: "I don't have a name." Character 1: "Sad. Will you have a name when we get home?" Character 2: "I don't have a home." -Jon |
I was debating about either dropping more quotes, or offering a hint. I'll offer a simple hint:
Character 1 in the above-mentioned quote is played by Elizabeth Shue. -Jon |
Okay, time for another quote from the same movie. Same characters as the earlier quote, but in reverse order:
Character 1: "What are those, drugs? Could I have one? My head is pounding. She's boring the life out of me." Character 2: "They're for my heart." Character 1: "Oh. You have very pretty eyes... pretty lady." Character 2: "Who are you?" Character 1: "Hmm? I'm here to do an interview with uh Dr. Russell. I'm gonna expose her as a fraud. You don't put any stock this cold fusion mumbo jumbo, do ya? " Character 2: "Actually, I do." -Jon |
AHH.
That's The Saint with Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue. I must have been subconsciously blocking it. -Garrett |

I had a series of similar quotes from similar exchanges in the film, but figured I didn't want to prolong this one any longer, and opted for one that referenced the cold fusion, easier to remember for those who have seen the film. -Jon |
It took me a while to put Elisabeth Shue and cold fusion together but it finally came to me.
OK here's another movie I watched as a kid. Soldier: You're not Mrs. Rochard. Capt: I'm Mr. Rochard. Soldier: Well, it's your wife who must report here for transportation to Bremerhaven. Capt: According to the War Department, I am my wife. Solder: You can't be your wife. Capt: If the American army says I can be my wife, who am I to dispute them? -Garrett |
No body have a guess yet? Another line in about an hour if no one gets it.
Garrett |
The only one the came to mind for me was "Stripes", but I'm pretty sure that's wrong.
-Jon |
Not Stripes. Think a lot older.
Next quote: Capt: I am an alien spouse of a female military personnel en route to the United States under public law 271 of the Congress. and a hint, This film was directed by Howard Hawks. -Garrett |
OK. Here's another clue:
1949 movie starred Ann Sheridan and Archibald Leach (that's not his stage name though). Garrett |
Ok if no one get's it by tomorrow I'll move onto another one.
-Garrett |
I know of the film you quoted from, as well as the basic premise of the story. But I have never actually seen it, and can't think of the exact name, so although you've provided great clues, I am still moderately clueless.
-Jon |
OK. So the movie was "I Was A Male War Bride" with Cary Grant.
Here's a very long quote, more of a monologue from a 1956 movie: "This is Tokyo. Once a city of six million people. What has happened here was caused by a force which up until a few days ago was entirely beyond the scope of Man's imagination. Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world. There were once many people here who could've told of what they saw... now there are only a few. My name is Steve Martin. I am a foreign correspondent for United World News. I was headed for an assignment in Cairo, when I stopped off in Tokyo for a social; but it turned out to be a visit to the living HELL of another world." -Garrett |
I'll hazard a guess, and say it is "Godzilla".
