Avid DV Express - Tutorials/Videos??
 

I just got this program and to my surprise they have a whole new way of editing clips and such compared to my Premiere. I'd like to learn how...and usually I do just by clicking around and figuring out on my own. That's how I learned premiere. I can't seem to get the hang of even simple cutting on this!! Anybody know of some good tutorials or tutorial videos? I'm sure once I get started it'll be easier to figure out, but the timeline functions so much differently than I'm used to I keep wanting to right click and it does nothing!!!

I'd imagine that the manual would be of great help.

Apologize for earleir comment...I was frustrated with not being able to figure out this program!!

I can't just read something then understand it ver well...I never have been able to very well because I'm a visual learner...so its hard for me to just look at something and learn.

Reading the manual is the best option, as that is what it was designed for. To help you to learnt he program. There is also an extensive online help utility in the program itself. There is no need to be touchy actually, because that was a very helpful answer.


Avid rocks over Premiere as you can have several sequences and duplicate them instantly and manage several version in the same project. It also allows you to cut your project in several sections and then combined the sections that work.

I'm the kind of person that keeps his head buried in the manuals. I pull them out all the time to check or learn something. To me it's a great way to learn a program. I was just trying to offer what works for me.

Okay, sorry to sound that way. I can look over a manual over and over and I still can't get it. I used some videos for other programs and I mean once I see it done...it just clicks, for small things like where a button or feature is I can do manuals, but for bigger things its just hard for me to do that, but once I see it I can do it forever! Thanx for the help.

Question with Avid. I see it requries a USB dongle. Is it possible to start up the program with the dongle in, then move it to another computer, or will the program stop all together when removed? Just thought I'd ask as that will probably be the biggest turn off from going out and buying the real thing instead of playing around with this free version.

One dongle, one machine running. If you pull out the dongle, the system will freeze. You can install avid on as many machines as you like, and the program ships with both Mac and PC versions. (No such luck with FCP or Vegas or even Premiere any more.)

Most expensive software has some sort of protection against "duplicating" it. That's life.
