NINJA - how 2 go from its 1080 60i to my 23.98p output?
'bout to rent a NINJA to record pro res 422 HQ, from my SONY EX1R - so I know that through the HDMI cable I'm only gonna get 1080 60i, NOT my 1080 23.98p that will come out of my camera...so NINJA will record the 60i - but how do I conform it back to 23.98p and will it be pristine, no funny stuff in the final output?

It won't... lol. I'm kidding but I did have the hardest time figuring that out.
Anyway, there's the progressive fields in Premeire that will remove pulldown (which didn't work for me) and there's After FX, which will remove pulldown (better solution). In the project panel, right click and there will be a tab saying "inter-- footage", something like that. A window will pop open and It will say "guess pulldown" under the fields options. You'll see it. Hope this helps. Hope the Ninja works for you, I returned mine :-( |

Thanks - I don't have Premier or AE, I have FCP 7 and its suite...anyone know what to do with FC Studio 3 to make this interlace problem into progressive?

My understanding is that the NINJA will simply record what is coming out of the camera sensor via the HDMI port. So if you need to be recording in a specific format, isn't the onus on making the right settings in the camera?

No, what happens is SONY EX1R when outputting via HDMI wraps the 1080 24p signal into a 60i...so no mater what 1080 flavor and frame rate you send it over HDMI from EX1R, NINJA will receive and record it as a 1080 60i input...
so how to reverse telecine to where it is clean, no degradation, and at 23.98p as chosen in camera? |

Ahh. That's got to be annoying. :-P

I'm sure there's software out there. I know for a fact Magic Bullet Grinder does the trick. Try a google search.
I don't knwo anything about Final Cut though... Even though I use it at my job lol. I'm sure there's settings in Final Cut. Try a search on it, or call there customer service. That's what I did to find out Premeire, and After FX had the pull-down removal. |
Re: NINJA - how 2 go from its 1080 60i to my 23.98p output?
If you have Final Cut, use Compressor. It has an option to reverse telecine. I've used it to transcode HV20 files which record 24p in a 29.97i stream. Works really well.
While I'm at it, I'm interested in purchasing a Ninja or Samurai. Since these devices FAT format the drives, how does it handle long video takes? Does it span or convert it into a complete clip, or do you have to manually assemble the 4GB files? I tape a lot of live performances (average show= 2 1/2 hours). Dave |

Thanks and COMPRESSOR Reverse Tele does work...and Ninja splits into separate clips, and you do have to manually cut back together...Now if you can wait til Dec I will be selling my NINJA - just bought a new one - with HDMI cable and everything, will sell much cheaper than you can buy new.
