DVX100 close to retirement [?] (said a dealer)
All you nice people there,
Here is just something one guy, official dealer of Pana here, where I live, told me a couple of days ago: That the company wants to slowly withdraw and probably stop producing the DVX100 in the forthcoming months. I just don't have a clue, if this is common knowledge to all except me, if it's just speculation from his part, or if it's plain ignorance. Any thoughts/info? Thanks in advance for answering silly questions... -s. |

Actually this thread covers the issue pretty well. See the comments by Jan Crittenden, who works for Panasonic

Hey Boyd
Do you know what the ROHS initiative is? I have no clue. And does someone think this will lower the price of the original dvx100a? Thanks, |
Read the second page of the link I posted, Jan explains it. Evidently it is a European initiative to reduce the number of toxic substances used in manufacturing.

Apparently it's the lead in the solder of the PCBs that's upset the environmentalists. The net result is that the circuits that aren't lead soldered will be less reliable or more expensive or both.
