View Full Version : Real audio conversion K. Forman May 23rd, 2003, 10:25 AM Anyone know of a program, prefferably free, that can convert Real Audio files into something useful? Thanks Peter Jefferson May 23rd, 2003, 11:33 AM hahahaha "something useful.." i know where your comin from mate...LOL umm.. free... no idea.. but i know vegas can run it on the timeline and you can convert from there... ?? K. Forman May 23rd, 2003, 12:40 PM Peter- The closest I come to Vegas these days, is Sound Forge, and my old version doesn't recognise .ram files. I did find a freebie program that handles real video, but no audio files. Close, but... I'm trying to find archive audio for a documentry, currently in the planning phase. Stuff like the fight between Rocky Marciano and Ezzard Charles, Jackie Robinson stealing home in the 55 World series, Eisenhower and the German surrender... Some I have found, but in Real Audio. At this point, I just need to throw a demo together, and sell my services and ideas. Thanks though :) Peter Jefferson May 23rd, 2003, 10:26 PM now instead of actualy converting the original, you can re-record what you alrady have. Theres another way around this... Depending on your soundcard if its full duplex (most are these days) you can run sound forge and set for recording... open realplayer but dont hit play yet.. now in the recoding panel of SF there should be a button called "remote" hit that and soundforge will shrink to become a transport bar with a monitor graph... no hit record, go to back to realplayer and hit play... recod what you need and voila... instant wav if you have any problems with this, let me know in detail and i can help set up your soundfcard as well as SF (as its a lil strange sometimes when it comes to inputs.) cheers P K. Forman May 24th, 2003, 04:41 AM I did try it, but I forgot this PC now has a cheapy soundcard, and can't handle that. I ended up using SF to snatch the audio off of some streaming QT. I don't know why I didn't try it with the Real audio on the other machine... Duh! Either way, I now have MOST of what I was looking for, and can throw it together tonight. With any luck, this will help net me an editing job. Thanks for all of your help Mate! Have a Fosters on me :) Peter Jefferson May 24th, 2003, 09:07 AM hic* hehe cheers mate K. Forman May 24th, 2003, 09:14 AM Fosters=Beeeer :) Rob Lohman May 26th, 2003, 05:37 AM Real is a problem format. Not much can read it (licensing issues) and usually the quality is very low. If all else fails you can always simply record the (digital) out on your soundcard whilst playing the file. K. Forman May 26th, 2003, 06:46 AM I really hate Real, period. From their players and invasive crap, to the lack of being able to use the stuff later. I got what I could, and put together a demo. I interviewed with the producer yesterday, and it went extremely well... except for the fact my demo CD was blank. DAMN YOU MURPHY!!!! The project is a documentary on Ralph Morse, retired photographer for Life magazine. He has photographed history for the last half of the 20th century, and known the most amazing people. I talked to the producer and got goosebumps... I would happily do this project just to be a part of it. Rob Lohman May 26th, 2003, 07:29 AM Good luck Keith! I hope it all works out for you! K. Forman May 26th, 2003, 08:38 AM Thanks Rob, I'm hoping it will work out for me too. This is one of those projects that comes alive in your mind. I haven't seen the footage yet, but I can already see how it will be laid out. This may just be my break as an editor :) |
