View Full Version : I just Stole a 16x Manual!

Well, at least it feels like I stole it. I won it on eBay for a measy $405.00 and it came with a Tiffen Haze 1 filter. So far both the lens and filter seem in mint condition; the glass on both are flawless.

I don't know why it sold for so low, maybe it's because the seller's history was so low, and no body wanted to risk it. Maybe because the auction ended at a bad time in morning on a week day, when most are just starting work and can't mess around on the internet, checking their bids.

I didn't even snipe the the thing. I, too, had to go to work on a job and I left my highest bid a $500 thinking there was no way I'd win; the thing usually sells between $650-$850. But when I came home later that night, I was utterly suprised to see that not only did I win, but I got it for $100 less than I than my maximum bid. Crazy.

Anyway it didn't come with manual so I'm wondering if there are any important things I should know about the lens. Perhaps some back focus tips?

Thanks.

I notice when I focus the lens seems to breath more than the 20x, is this normal? Or is it a back focus issue?

That's normal, the 16x manual lens does "breathe" when adjusting focus. The only real downside to the lens, that and it's not wide enough when zoomed out all the way.

...And there was me thinking some thief had owned up to swiping mine in Spain..!

Nice catch R.W., it is a great lens to use. There was also a mint Manual 16X that sold for even less than yours a few weeks back in UK, but I was away from the PC and missed the end of auction....damn!

how come there's a hole on the lens, between the two phillips screws, between the focus and zoom ring?

here's a photo: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://dvinfo.net/canon/articles/tanaka/fig4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://dvinfo.net/canon/articles/article82.php&h=440&w=500&sz=46&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=w6FxDsGNe88L7M:&tbnh=114&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcanon%2B16x%2Bmanual%2B%26gbv%3D2%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
