Can you hook the xl2 straight to a video projector through s-video and have it play in 16:9? Assuming the mini dv tape is in 16:9?

It's as easy as making sure the projector's aspect setting is at 16:9 as well. Although if I'm not mistaken you made need additional cables for sound as I believe it is not transfered over S-video.

I do this all the time with my Optoma DV10 projector. Most projectors have an aspect ratio adjustment that does 4:3, 16:9 and letterbox. I usually just throw the tape in my capture deck and connect it via RCA cables. I have used S-Video the same way.

That's pretty much exactly how you do it. Is it for a presentation or as part of an interview set up? Just curious?

The XL2 manual says if you use the S-Video output and have an S-Video input device, that device will most likely sense the 16:9 and switch itself. Plus you'll get a better picture with S-Video than RCA.

Hi Mike,
can you tell me what you like and/or DISLIKE about the dv10? I just ordered the dv11 .... thanks ...

No real complaints at this point besides the fact it gets a little hot but thats probably normal for most projectors. Color reproduction is excellent, the built in DVD player works great and bowling on the Wii is awesome on a 90" screen. Overall really happy so far.

Sounds good. Do you use external speakers? Can anyone suggest a few good, yet moderately priced external speaker options (non xlr)?

I connected my dv11 to my jbl radial speaker dock, not bad - but too low. Thanks guys ...
