Hello brothers,
Just messing about with the new FCP Studio 2 and trying to determine if there is any reason to do my editing/finishing in ProRes HQ as opposed to ProRes? I'm completely down with using ProRes (have to if you're going to use color, which is certainly an interesting program), but is it worth the extra bandwidth to work in HQ? I gave them a cursory comparison and didn't see a big difference.

Thanks!

My 2 cents

I would think it really is going to depend on your final output. If you are going to broadcast we all know the hits the quality takes in the encoding and transmission. What looks the same on the screen now may be a different story once things are bounced off a sat and spit back out on someones tv.

For a DVD it may not matter at all, for broadcast I would think we still want to squeeze every little bit of quality we can into the final output.

I agree with Kyle.
145mb pro-res is 8 bit and 220mb pro-res HQ is 10 bit, so renders and any colour correction or grading will be smoother with 1024 shades of grey compared to 8 bits 256 shades. However as your output is likely to be 8 bit you will loose some of this advantage on final output.
