I just pulled my camera out for the first time in maybe a month, and plugged it in to charge the battery all the way up. Slight problem: the charger is not detected, at all. The charger definitely has power, and you can hold it up to your ear to hear the little electronic sounds that these devices make. However, no indication of it on camera, no charge light, device won't power up without a battery and with external power, etc. Anyone else have this happen?

Hi Ryan,
You have two components -- the charger and the camcorder -- so you have to narrow down where the problem is. If possible, take the camcorder to another charger somewhere, such as a retail electronics store, and see if they'll let you connect your camcorder. If the problem is in the camcorder, then that sounds like it might be a warranty repair issue. Let us know what happens,

yeah, I just pulled out my multimeter, the charger is supplying the proper voltage, must be somewhere in the camera. What's the best option for getting in touch with Canon for warranty issues?

Call 1-800-OK-CANON and follow the prompts to the service / repair info.
But first: remove the batt, use a paperclip to press the Reset button and see if that helps.

yeah, I popped a few screws and peeked in, looks like the solder joint holding down the charger terminal popped. Definitely sending it in.

This may have voided your warranty. I hope not.

high-five to canon on this one. It showed up on my doorstep today, and they completely fixed everything, even the HDMI cover that I had accidentially torn off.

Interesting you bring this up, because I've noticed I can move the adapter around while it's plugged into the camera and the power will go on and off. To me it feels like the hardware has a physically weak connection and I was wondering about the build quality. I think your issue only confirms in my mind that perhaps they could have done a better job in construction design for the adapter connection.
