Hi all. Hopefully this will be an easy one? While I can get any other camera to be recognized during video capture (using more than one application - Premiere Pro, Scenalyzer, etc.), nothing will recognize the XL-1 as a valid device.
This is new - this was not always the case. I want to say that I've narrowed it down to the camera itself. In the viewfinder, when I switch it on and in VCR mode, flashes this: "DV IN". Somehow, it seems that the XL-1 is expecting something in rather than to put out?
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped.

Double check the menu settings.
Try switching out the firewire cable.
DV is a 2 way street, they use the "DVIN" but it means in/out, but it should not be flashing.
By the way, when connecting, is the XL1 power OFF, connect the cable, then power the camera up, THEN load the capture software?

What OS are you using? What DV card does the computer use?
Have you tried connecting to a XP machine?
The flashing DVIN is what bothers me.I can't say I've seen that before.
In the menu check the DV control setting is off.

I am using XP and have successfully connected with the same card and camera. The flashing DVIN seems to be the key, but I don't see where to check that on or off in the menu. I'm beginning to think it is either the XL-1' DV port tt's fried - or else just a simple menu toggle. Still trying to figure it out.

Hi Geoff, go to menu, system, DV control and make sure it's off.
You would only have this on if you wanted the camera to control another XL1.Only 1 device can be the contolling device and your firewire card is it,so this needs to be off.
