Can someone recommend a low cost wind protection and mounting setup for stereo recording? Can't afford Rycote at the moment, and need to get this going quick. Needs to support X-Y and MS configurations.

Maybe hire what you need for this job until you can afford the Rycote?

This is a year-long documentary. Definitely going to get the Rycote, but I need to save up a bit and there's nowhere locally to rent.

Try some students from a local film school or maybe put a listing on craigslist..you would be surprised on the response from sound people looking for a credit and copy.

For MS the AKG blueline figure eight and Schoeps CMC6 MK41. For XY two AKG CK93s.

As far as I know, the absolute cheapest, cheapest wind protection that works in mild to moderate conditions is the kind of furry mitt used for washing cars. They cost less than 10 bucks (I've seen them for as little as $2) and you can cut them up to fit your mic setup. They are no substitute for a Rycote, (and they look funny if you don't customize them) but they are good enough for a lot of situations.

Best wishes,
Peter
